Turn the pay line into a real estimate
Ask what the pay unit means, which miles or hours are paid, how waiting time and extra stops are handled, and whether the number shown is guaranteed or only possible. Compare the complete package, including benefits, deductions, and unpaid time.
Define home time and route expectations
Words such as local, regional, and long haul can mean different things at different companies. Ask how many nights are normally away, whether weekends are protected, where trips begin and end, and how often plans change.
Check the equipment and freight fit
Confirm the transmission, trailer type, loading duties, border travel, seasonal work, and physical requirements. Ask which licence class, endorsements, and experience are required before starting the application.
